Guest lecture on 'Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) by Mrs. Sharika Rai on 15.03.2025

15th March, 2025 @ BJILS: The institute has hosted a guest lecture on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 on 15.03.2025 at 11.20 a.m. Ms. Sharika Rai, Head of the Department of Law at SDM Law College has delivered an insightful lecture on the topic. The session focused on child rights and legal provisions for punishing child abuse, emphasizing the need for stringent measures to protect minors from exploitation. Ms. Rai provided a comprehensive overview of the POCSO Act, highlighting key legal aspects, case studies, and the role of the judiciary in ensuring justice for victims. She stressed the importance of awareness and collective responsibility in safeguarding children’s rights. The lecture concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where students actively participated and clarified their doubts regarding the topic. The event served as a valuable learning experience, reinforcing the importance of legal awareness in society. About 40 students of the 5-year B.B.A., LL.B. and 3-year LL.B. courses attended the seminar. Assistant Professors of the department Prof. Sanghamitra Roy Pai, Prof. Deepthi G Bhat, Prof. Sowmya, Prof. Priya D’Souza were present during the event.  The principal of the institution, Dr. Pradeep M.D. presided over the guest lecture. Mr. Adhikrith Pai, the students of second Semester B.B.A., LL.B, was the master of ceremony, the welcome address was delivered by Ms. Falak of second semester B.B.A.,L.L.B. and Mrs. Preethi of  second semester B.B.A.,L.L.B, has introduced the resource person to the gathering.
