Seminar on 'Cyber Awareness- Staying Vigilant against Cyber Threats @ BJILS on 13.03.2025.

13th March, 2025: Bhuvana Jyothi Institute of Legal Studies has organised a Seminar on 'Cyber Awareness- Staying Vigilant against Cyber Threats On March 13, 2025, an informative session on "Cyber Awareness - Staying Vigilant Against Cyber Threats" was conducted to educate students and faculty members about the importance of cybersecurity. The session was led by Mr. Yashwant A S, CEO and Director of Y17J Cyber Security and Management Consultant LLP, Bangalore, who shared valuable insights into the ever-changing cyber landscape. Cyber threats come in various forms, including phishing attacks, malware infections, data breaches, and identity theft. Mr. Yashwant highlighted real-world cases where individuals and organizations suffered significant financial and reputational losses due to cyberattacks. He emphasized the need for strong security measures to protect personal and professional data. One of the key takeaways from the session was recognizing phishing attacks. Emails and messages that appear legitimate but contain malicious links can compromise sensitive data. Always verifying the source before clicking on links or downloading attachments is crucial. Another important aspect discussed was strengthening passwords by using strong, unique passwords and enabling multi-factor authentication (MFA) to add an extra layer of security. Mr. Yashwant also stressed the importance of keeping software updated. Updating systems and applications helps prevent exploitation of vulnerabilities by cybercriminals. Safe browsing practices, such as avoiding untrusted websites and being cautious while sharing personal information online, were also highlighted as key habits to adopt. In today’s digital age, students frequently engage with online platforms for education, social interactions, and financial transactions. Mr. Yashwant emphasized that young individuals must develop cyber awareness to safeguard themselves against digital threats. Regularly backing up important data, using secure networks, and employing cybersecurity tools can significantly reduce risks. He urged students to be proactive and report suspicious activities to the relevant authorities. Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility, and staying informed is the first step toward protection. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where attendees gained clarity on various cybersecurity concerns. With the increasing sophistication of cyberattacks, vigilance and awareness are crucial in ensuring digital safety. The event served as a crucial reminder that cybersecurity is not just a technical issue but a necessity in today’s interconnected world. Educational institutions must continue to promote cyber awareness to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the digital landscape securely. The speaker oriented students on the aspects of different types of cyber crimes, intensity of cyber attacks, certifications required for the tech advocates from ISAC India, prevention methods such as 2 factor authentication (2FA), Password protection with minimum 14 Characters specially with capital, small, numbers and special characters, maintaining paid antivirus for both personal computers and mobiles, reporting the instances of financial fraud to tollfree Help Line No. 1930 and reporting the non financial frauds through the www.cybercrime.gov.in.
